NAME: SNOW LANDSCAPE IN SERRA DE TRAMUNTANA

In the Serra de Tramuntana it usually snows in the highest peaks, every year. It snows an average of 14 days a year in the Puig Major (1445m).  Snowy mountains are also often El Tomir, El Massanella y El Teix. The worst affected road by snow is Ma10, in Lluc.The heaviest snowfall was registered in 1965. 1965 is well known in Mallorca as ‘’the year of the snow’’. It began to snow on February and was snowing the whole month. The village of Lluc was cut off by the snow in 1953. The temperature reached -13’5 degrees Celsius on these days. In the 21st Century, it snowed at sea level in 2005 and 2012. The snow depth on record in Puig Major was 1’5m in 2005. The snow left several villages cut off in February 2012.  A mild ice age took place here between XVI and XVIII Centuries.
