NAME: POLLENTIA

The Roman city of Pollentia is located in the municipality of Alcudia, 58 kilometers far away from the city of Palma. It is the most important archaeological site in Mallorca and  the best preserved Roman site in the island. There was a Roman Forum, a residential area and a Roman Necropolis. An university course in Archeology takes place there. It was discovered in the 17th century. Excavations in the area began in 1923. The Museum holds Roman coins. The city existed from the year 70 BC until the sixth century and after a decadent age the city became a Necropolis. There is a monographic museum of Pollentia.
